Morning Star

  1. MORNING STAR - An acrylic painting on an 18 x 24 size canvas board. It was a spare-time painting circa 1985.

Artists, like writers, are often asked, "Where do you get your ideas from?" Obviously when I'm illustrating a story, the ideas come from the author. Otherwise, there is no specific source. In this case I was inspired to paint "Morning Star" after reading H. Rider Haggard's novel, "Ayesha, the Return of She".

I have about a thousand books in my library, mostly science fiction and fantasy. I've probably read about a thousand more that I discarded over time because my bookshelves are full, so when I buy a new one, an old one has to leave.

Every book collector I know has the same problem; finding a place for books he continues to buy. And it doesn't help to buy a bigger house with more rooms. There is a law in physics, "nature abhors a vacuum", that seems to also apply to book collectors; whatever space you aquire, books will flow in rapidly and fill it up!
